YOUNG AT THE OPERA | THE HEART OF AN ALIEN

You hear him, you see him, you feel him. The German countertenor, synthpop artist and fashion icon Klaus Nomi was always far from average. But this trail-blazing avant-gardist also had a strong desire for community, belonging and love. The dying Nomi reveals his innermost feelings to the audience in a raw, moving monologue, the voice of every lonely artist and nonconformist.
In the autumn of 2020, Klaus Nomi premiered at the Rotundan at the Royal Swedish Opera. Now we invite our audience to (re) experience the magic and to enjoy the gripping performance digitally. In this intimate portrait by playwright Lucas Svensson, we encounter Klaus during his final hours. Klaus is performed by the baritone Richard Hamrin, and the performance is directed by Sunil Munshi, known for his acclaimed monologues and ability to reveal the inherent power of the human mind. Arias by, among others, Purcell and Saint-Saëns, as well as Nomi’s own hits, are performed by a string quartet, piano and synthesisers.
»Impressive breakthrough for Richard Hamrin« SvD
»Richard Hamrin portrays Nomi skillfully, both scenically and with his voice - basically a baritone - who can both go up in falsetto, play with the arias and speak convincingly to the audience« Aftonbladet
»Klaus Nomi's spectacular performances and fate are well suited for opera« Expressen
»I just shudder when I think of Richard Hamrin's exit in this performance, perhaps the most beautiful I've ever seen« SvD

Klaus Nomi premiered on October 17, 2020, and the recording is a co-production with SVT.
